Prime Day TV Deals: A Trio of 98-inch TCL 4K QLED TVs Starting at $1999

TV maker TCL told us at a briefing earlier this year that they sold over 10,000 98-inch TVs in the United States last year. This year their goal is ten times that: TCL aims to sell over 100,000 98-inch or larger TVs in 2024. And here’s how they’re going to do it: more options in more places for less money. While TCL is getting their large screens into more retail locations so consumers can actually see them in person, they’ve also just launched some extra large deals on extra large TVs through Amazon that online shoppers will find likely hard to resist.

To celebrate Prime Day, TCL has temporarily dropped the prices of all three of their extra large 98-inch TVs, with the QLED Q651G model starting at $1,999, the step up MiniLED QLED QM751G selling for $2,999 and the flagship QM851G MiniLED TV selling for $3,999. Yes, that’s a 98-inch top of the line miniLED QLED TV with over 5,000 nits of brightness and advanced AI picture processing for under $4,000. All prices include in-home white glove delivery. Offer ends July 21, or while supplies last.

Why Spend More?

You might think that if you can get a 98-inch TV for $1999, why spend $2999 or $3999? This is really a “good, better, best” scenario. All three 98-inch TCL TVs are built on the Google TV platform so they have access to all of the popular streaming apps like Netflix, Max, Disney+, Amazon Prime and thousands more. Because TCL is a newer player in the US TV market, they’re offering a pretty significant discount over the more established brands like LG, Samsung and Sony. So even the Q65 model for $1999 offers great video and audio performance.

For $1999, TCL’s 98-inch Q651G TV offers exceptional value and quantum dot color technology.

Even the lowest cost Q65 model uses Quantum Dot technology to provide rich color saturation and wide color gamut reproduction. The entry-level Q65 TV features a standard LED backlight (no local dimming) so it is not going to compete with OLED TVs for black levels and contrast. But the Q65 set uses TCL’s AiPQ Processing to improve picture performance from all types of sources including cable, premium streaming and even compressed YouTube content. AiPQ includes AI Color, AI Contrast, AI Clarity, and AI Motion processing.

The Q65 and QM7 models include a more advanced version of the video processor called TCL AiPQ PRO. But the QM7 replaces the basic LED backlight with an advanced MiniLED backlight with local dimming technology to improve brightness and contrast and prevent the haloing around bright objects and image smearing that you can sometimes see on traditional LED backlights.

TCL’s 98-inch QM751G 4K TV features Quantum Dot color and a mini LED backlight with full local dimming.

The flagship QM8 series TVs includes more backlight zones and an even more advanced version of the processor, the TCL AiPQ ULTRA Processor with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG HDR support. It also includes IMAX Enhanced certification with both DTS:X and Dolby Atmos sound on-board, with sound enhanced by Onkyo, reflective height speakers and a built-in subwoofer for deep extended bass response.

We have the 65-inch QM8 TV in for review right now and have found that it offers outstanding brightness and picture performance, rivaling the big dogs in high performance TVs. It can reproduce up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness leading to punchy picture performance with rich, accurate color reproduction and excellent contrast.

TCL 98-inch QM851G TV
We checked out the 98-inch TCL QM851G earlier this year and found that it offered exceptional picture quality with peak brightness up to 5,000 nits.

So any choice is a good choice. If you can afford the top of the line QM8, then go for it. It will look the best in a variety of room lighting conditions from a dimly lit home theater to a bright living room with sunlight streaming in through the windows. But if you’re looking to save a bit, but still get a huge immersive viewing experience in your media room, man cave or living room, the Q65 or QM7 offer excellent performance for the price. And at these Prime Day deals, they’ll be hard to resist.
